We used to think, my sisters and I, that it was milk making people sick, we had learned from respected communities that unprocessed milk, referred to as ‘raw milk’, was unsafe. We believed that the reason so many people present with reactions to milk i.e. lactose intolerance, eczema, asthma, allergies, stomach upsets and bowel problems, to name a few… was because we should not drink milk after we have been weaned. We understood milk to be acidic (raw milk is alkaline) and that over time this caused problems in our bodies. We did not understand pasteurisation or have any idea of its damaging effect on a vital source of nutritious food for our babies and our children to grow healthily. We, like most other people just accepted that pasteurisation was best and protecting us from something bad. We have discovered very recently, how wrong we were.
People are discovering lactose intolerance is not something wrong with them… they are not lactose intolerant, but pasteurisation intolerant. The destruction of the enzymes in milk due to the pasteurisation process effects many metabolic functions, lactase needed to break down lactose, iron needed to carry oxygen around the body, providing energy for good cell function and growth cannot be utilized by the body without the vital enzymes. There is calcium in both the raw milk and the pasteurised milk, the calcium from raw milk will end up exactly where nature intended, in your bones and teeth. During the eighteenth century, there were many health problems due to unclean, filthy conditions where bad bacteria caused many diseases which led to high death tolls, especially in children. Pasteurised milk is not tested because it is believed to be so safe, but pasteurisation does not always work and people do become ill…pasteurisation is like an antibiotic it kills everything, the milk is useless and full of dead bacteria good and bad, useless vitamins and destroyed enzymes.

We have discovered raw milk to be an amazing food; there is no other food like it in the world. Manufactured in the body it digests itself and takes nothing in terms of energy from the body and is vital to the health and well-being of all young mammals. Excessive pituitary hormones are also associated with tumor formation, and some studies link milk consumption with cancer. The freak-pituitary cow is prone to many diseases. She almost always secretes pus into her milk and needs frequent doses of antibiotics. Another serious problem with today’s dairying methods is the feeding of high-protein soybean meal to the cows. This stimulates them to produce large quantities of milk but contributes to a high rate of mastitis and other problems that lead to sterility, liver problems, and shortened lives. Little research has been done to determine what these soy feeds do to the kind and quality of protein in cow’s milk. Is the current high rate of milk-protein allergies due to the use of inappropriate feed in our dairy herds? The proper food for cows is green plants, especially the rapidly growing green grasses in the early spring and fall. Milk from properly fed cows will contain the Price Factor and cancer-fighting CLA as well as a rich supply of vitamins and minerals. Unfortunately, under the current system, farmers have little incentive to pasture-feed their herds nor to follow other practices that result in high-quality milk.”

It is frightening that it is becoming acceptable for our children to have brain disorders, eczema, asthma and other allergies. We are responsible, the decisions we make now about foods and nutrition could have dire consequences for our descendants. Science now knows that 1% of our genes are standard at birth, but the rest are affected by nutrition after birth. We know we can switch genes on and switch genes off by the foods we eat. Human brains need fat for healthy brain growth and function, by removing fat and destroying all nutrients in the food we eat we are causing inherited problems and deformities at a genetic level. The alternative to our raw milk formula is a commercial formula, which has been a source of many outbreaks of infection, often fatal. Recently in China, many infants developed kidney failure after consuming infant formula tainted with melamine.

“Both raw and pasteurized milk harbor bacteria but the bacteria in raw milk is the healthy bacteria of lactic-acid fermentation while the bacteria in pasteurized milk is the bacteria of spoilage. And the overall bacteria count of milk produced under clean conditions is much lower than that of pasteurized milk. Both raw and pasteurized milk contain E. coli, normally a benign microorganism. The most likely source of the new strains of virulent E. coli is genetically engineered soy, fed to cows in large commercial dairies. If there is any type of milk likely to harbor these virulent breeds, it is commercial pasteurized milk.
Back in the days when scientists at our universities did real research, they compared the health of children fed raw or pasteurized milk. Children fed raw milk have more resistance to TB, scurvy, flu, diphtheria, pneumonia, asthma, allergic skin problems and tooth decay. In addition, their growth and calcium absorption were superior.
Of course, as with all foods, raw milk must come from healthy cows and be carefully handled and stored. The same technology that we use to pasteurize our milk also allows us to keep raw milk fresh and clean. If you are buying directly from a farmer, be sure that the cows are mostly on pasture and that the barn is kept clean. The milk should go directly from the milking machine into a stainless steel tank or clean containers and be kept chilled. It should be used within a period of one week, after which it will begin to go sour (although it is not dangerous when it does so).
